Unknown DC Power supply - Identification help?
« on: November 28, 2017, 03:10:30 am »
So the electronics shop where I work has a lot of random hardware in storage, everything from an espresso machine to chemical synthesis equipment. Looking to make some space, I dug out this sealed box that contains what appears to be a high voltage DC power regulator/buffer. Approximately 9 450v 1500uf capacitors, impressively solid bus bars, and a massive heatsink sitting over several SKIIP39GA IGBTs. I have tried to ascertain a model name from the silkscreen markings on the mainboard, but have not found any results. Any help in identifying it would be appreciated, if it is worth something it would be a shame to scrap it for parts towards repairs. I've attached photos of the main sides of the board, as well as a closeup of the serial number.

It looks like it is for a 3 phase UPS.

Doing some more digging, I believe it to be part of an Eaton Powerware UPS. The only photos of a similar board I have found are for the 30KVA model, which has a similar board but with fewer capacitors and a smaller heatsink.
This is the link to the blog with a teardown of what seems to be a smaller model.

The board I have would seem to be part of a much higher capacity model.

EDIT:
Looking at the information on the original shipping box, the board seems to be from an EATON 9395 Power Xpert UPS. Still trying to find a part name so we can maybe sell it instead of scrapping. I figure it could be worth something, as it is brand new still in a anti static wrap.

Hi Eamon

It was my blog post that you found.

EATON 9395 Power Xpert is a serious system and I think it would be hard to find someone with a installation like that, that needs that exact part. They would most likely just call Eaton for repair/service/spare parts.

I think it represent a very little value, even if taken apart for the components, especially because the skiip IGBT modules are hard to reuse due to their pressure point contacts and the electrolytic capacitors are small.

Either you strike luck and sell it at 50% of list price from Eaton (if you can even find out what that it) or I guess it will be around maximum 50-100$ worth in components to the right buyer.
