USB microscope software
« on: October 29, 2015, 08:37:55 pm »
Got an Andonstar USB microscope that i lost the CD-rom that came with it.
I need a SW for it to run on Windows. Have search the web but so far i only found viruses and malware.
Anyone know a clean and working software to use with USB microscopes out there?

Issue Solved:

Contacted Andonstar support and they shared a dropbox link with the SW.

I found on Windows 10 that the camera app send to do a good job of picking up my USB microscope. Much better than previous versions. Might not be relevant for you, but thought I'd mention it for others.

On Windows 8, the camera app is convinced that my microscope is a front facing camera, and so the image is mirrored, with no way I can find to convince it otherwise.  My webcam, which *is* a front-facing camera by its nature, is of course not mirrored.  Other than that, though, the camera app is snappy and works well.

The program I typically use is called EHE, and is provided by Oasis Scientific for their cameras.  It works with any generic camera, and is pretty barebones, but is fast enough that you can reasonably work under the camera--there's still a little bit of lag, but not enough to be a huge problem.  I highly recommend it if you don't need anything fancy.

Could just be a false positive - have you tried running it through VirusTotal?  ;)

Unless your AV can actually name a specific, known threat that was identified within the file, I would ignore it.

Most antivirus software bend over backwards to warn you about this or that thing for the sake of maintaining the dual illusions that 1) malware is more prevalent than it actually is and 2) that the AV software is actually protecting you from it.  Commercial AV products ratchet these efforts up to 11 because they want to convince you that not only is the software worth whatever you've already paid for it, but that you really ought to pony up for the Super Advanced Ultra Protection package with Extra Warning Messages and Paranoia Guard Technology (tm).

Generally your best bet is to simply enable first-party AV protection (eg windows defender) and keep it updated and practice judicious safe browsing.  Oh, and of course maintain offline backups so that it you do get hit with something nasty like encryption ransomware you can simply wipe your drive and start over.

I had very positive experience with ImageJ.
A good distribution is that: https://fiji.sc/

You can use (most?) of the USB Microscopes with that plugin:
https://imagej.nih.gov/ij/plugins/webcam-capture/index.html

Especially something like measurements (scale, distance, area ) works just flawlessly.

Sorry but it isn´t Free ! Only a Demo that works 15 minutes!  :(

But have any other a realy free software (freeware or Opensource) that work with Mustool G600 Microscop and with the appropriate measuring function ?

I look now 5 Days with google and found nothing that works with measuring functions and my Mustool microscop. All software that works show only the Picture of the microscop, but have then no measuring functions.

Thanks for Help

Greetings from germany

I was looking for the software for my Vividia 2.0MP microscope and found that Oasis Scientific (linked above) only has a very bad version of this software.

If you want a better working and slightly more featured version, check:

Oh, the "whys" of the datasheets... The information is there not to be an axiomatic truth, but instead each speck of data must be slowly inhaled while carefully performing a deep search inside oneself to find the true metaphysical sense...

Hi,

I would recommend HAYER S-Eye software. It's pretty decent, simple, has controls and measurement, small, fast and works with generic cams.
What I like most - it is possible to set destination images directory (hi Microsoft Cam!) and it has easy interface. And it's fee.
