Wrist strap ESD grounding point
« on: January 06, 2019, 09:48:06 pm »
I bought this thing for grounding myself (I used to use a mains cable with live and neutral disconnected inside the plug but that uses up a plug socket). I'm going to connect it to my radiator. There are two things about it that I don't understand. The first is what the word "Effect" means on the front and the second is why the studs aren't connected to the green wire like the banana sockets are. I suspect that the answers may be Chinese and permanently outside my comprehension.

Effect is probably just some random wort to take up the space.

Studs may be disconnected so that if you want to temporarily unground yourself, you have some place to put the plug. Although the whole thing appears to be made out of metal. Are they actually disconnected?

There are multiple type of plugs, the plugs near EFFECT word are also used to wrist straps, i use them but banana plug have a better grip! They are disconnected, you can simply solder a wire at back, patching every connector. I have done that to mine.

They are, no continuity. The metal is isolated with paint or other finish process.

Ok, the first picture was not clear on what those things were. In this case it is just poor design.
