1.5 volt / 1 transistor pulsing VHF transmitter
« on: September 04, 2016, 09:26:20 am »
It's easier to get reasonable RF power output from a transistor with high collector or drain voltage (within ratings).

However there's also novelty value in seeing what can be done with a 1.5 volt battery.

This video features a 1 transistor (BC548) VHF transmitter running off a single AA.

It's crystal controlled for frequency stability (though there is distinctive chirpy keying) and it only works in daylight.

With a makeshift antenna that was not tuned up correctly I got 2km range.

That is good to work some SOTA in WSPR or JT.
