455Khz IF can color code
« on: December 16, 2018, 12:27:34 am »
I see these tunable 455khz inductor cans come color coded.  What range does each color cover?  I need tunable inductors in the .8 to 1.2 uH range.

Thanks

Jerry

I don't think that there is any industry standard color coding for IF transformers involved, every manufacture would have there own part number and coding method. Any further information you could provide?

I saw a radio kit once, maybe it was for WWV, and also if you look on eBay for the cans, you'll see they are sometimes listed as for instance "yellow" or "black".  So I assumed there was a coding.  I could be wrong.  I need tunable cans from .6 to 1.4uh.

Thanks

The IF transformers which go between the mixer stage & the 1st IF stage have different impedance windings
on the secondary to those between that IF stage & a diode detector.

From memory, those "El Cheapo" IF transformers only have one tuned winding, with the other untuned, but I may be wrong.

The sets of transformers usually come with two IF transformers & one local oscillator coil .

VK2TIP offers the following on his website:-
