4G module with integrated GPS require separate antenna?
« on: December 10, 2018, 05:03:37 am »
Hello All,

For our project, we need 4G connectivity and GPS functionality...When I explored them in Sierra, I found some with 4G+GPS...But, I am wondering that they need separate antenna since our GPS signal is at 1.5GHz and 4G at either 1800 MHz or 2300-2400 MHz...(Or) a single antenna with large bandwidth will be used for this...Please suggest...

Thanks,
Muthu

You need a separate antenna. The frequency bands and polarization are different and you can't make good antenna to serve both functions. In addition, separate antennas offer some isolation to prevent 4G causing interference for GNSS. (I've seen combined antennas, but those are... difficult and contain $magic).
