50 Ohm BNC Feed Through
« on: November 12, 2017, 04:29:40 pm »
Hello
I want to buy some BNC 50 Ohm Feed Through (BNC or SMA).
but do you know any product from mini-circuits company? I checked and I didn't see any Feed Through.

Thanks

Have you considered:
  • asking MiniCircuits directly; they might know the answer better than we do
  • looking at the answer to the identical question you asked 8 hours earlier
There are lies, damned lies, statistics - and ADC/DAC specs.
Glider pilot's aphorism: "there is no substitute for span". Retort: "There is a substitute: skill+imagination. But you can buy span".

I asked them before but I didn't receive any solutions :|
they told me this is not a good solution to convert the input impedance of your Oscope to 50R :| , they didn't mentioned anything about the Feed Through.
actually they are right, now I want to build an active adapter.

A feedthrough terminator is as good as it is possible to get if the scope doesn't have an internal terminator. An active adapter would add complexity and probably additional noise too.

There's no reason to insist on buying one from MiniCircuits though.

Yes, You are right :)
I know such products from Rigol, Pomona and some low price feed through as follow:
https://www.fasttech.com/products/6767500
(actually there are two 100 Ohm resistors inside, after buying some of them have 100 Ohm impedance! it depends on your chance!  :-BROKE)
some people build one at home, others use BNC T Adapter+50R Capline.  :-BROKE

High bandwidth scopes generally have a 50 ohm option. For low bandwidth scopes (say up to 200MHz), then the solution posted by xzswq21 of using a t-converter and a 50 ohm termination probably works ok. Though the response by minicircuits is probably right as you would have 50 ohms in parallel with the RC of the input to the scope.

My scope does have 50 ohm input as an option but it is limited to 5Vrms before damage so sometimes I've used a T-connector and 50 ohm termination on the 10Mohm input when working with signals I suspect might be quite large.
