alinco dr-m06 hum when ctcss is on.
« on: November 07, 2017, 12:22:49 am »
I have a alinco dr-m06 that i am using as an echolink node and every time it transmits with the ctcss on it produces an audible hum on the the output frequency, but this is only when the ctcss is turned on.  I have looked at the service manual to see if there's any adjustments and there is one that adjusts the ctcss/dcs  modulation. Would this be what i am looking for to solve this issue? What test equipment would i need to fix this?
I would really hate to have to get another radio as these 6m radios are up in the $200-$300 range. I would much rather fix what i have.
I would appreciate any insight anyone can provide on this.
Thanks

You need to filter the CTCSS out. Blocking it going into Echolink.
Take a look at this page https://forums.radioreference.com/streaming-broadcasting-audio-recording/204469-diy-ctcss-filter-streaming.html it should give you enough information to build a small notch filter that will block the sub audible tones.
Once you have that built you should stop people complaining of the buzzing ;)

Or even better here. Using a High Pass filter as opposed to a Notch Filter. Then you would not be limited to a single frequency.

Repeater-Builder has a Metric Ton of radio related information that I found extremely useful when I built my EchoIRLP node and repeater.
