Cheap, easy to duplicate, handheld RF scalar network analyzer
« on: February 13, 2017, 01:19:26 am »
Hi

I just posted Yana (Yet Another Network Analyzer) in the PHSNA group.  Look in the Files
for Yana. (Message #3192)
https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/PHSNA/conversations/messages
Cheap, easy to duplicate, handheld portable SNA.  Cost about $40.  Follows the PHSNA design
except a small TFT and Nano replace a computer.  Detailed build instructions with experiments
to follow.

For those still looking.

regards
tom

There are many good groups on Yahoo. I was already a member of Yahoo Groups so joining the VNA group was simple. Yahoo Groups has been around an awful long time and it is wise to not discount its content 😉

Groups, like the one I own, are restricted (membership requests needed) for a very good reason...... it virtually kills spam on the Group making it far more enjoyable for members. In restricted groups just get spammed to death by sex related stuff 😆

If this is OP's own project why don't post it here in an archive, this forum's audience is much bigger.

Gotta agree with Fraser, Yahoo groups are still quite valuable.

Hello Tom,
I am very much interested in that project. :-+

A test setup is already finished.

Do you have maybe also an operating instruction manual?
To read the way of operation out of the source code is not so easy.

The basic AD9851 + AD8307 + ATmega328P architecture is nice. Might be nice to spin it into a single real PCB for manufacturability benefits.

Hello LukeW,

it is already done, with a mother PCB and a 3D printed housing, please see the picture.
I am just in the process to put it on a web page.

Greetings, Rudolf

Rudi

I have partially written operating instructions (which badly need editing) so I have not posted them
yet.  They are incomplete.  Email me directly and I will send the version I have.

thanks for your query.

More details and experiments are available for Yana at
http://personal.colby.edu/personal/t/trberger/pages/hamradio.htm

Yana-BT, an enhanced bluetooth enabled version of Yana is described
by Rudi DL5FA at
http://www.rudiswiki.de/wiki9/YanaVNA-BT

Yana is a good project for clubs or individuals.

Very interesting project. How hard would it be to transform this scalar analyzer into a vector analyzer?
