crazy charger
« on: February 24, 2018, 08:42:38 pm »
I just bought a Radioddity GD-77 as a low-cost way to experiment with DMR.

It came with this insane charger:

I mean, I appreciate wanting to save some cost, but this is a phone killer.

I believe you meant to say, “Stupid person’s phone killer.”

LOL.

So, in my house, I have drawer full of generic USB chargers. I could probably trust myself to keep this object out of that drawer, but several other people live in my house, so.... I'll probably epoxy the cord into the charger!

Probably be simpler just to label it (bigger than it’s already labeled, in non-electronics dumber words) with a label maker...

... this is assuming anyone who might use it to charge something can read.

Ahh the joys of no kids and a ham shack in its own room where the wife never bothers to go...

Have you tested it to see if it actually outputs 12V by default? Qualcomm Quick Charge and Asus TF101 chargers can also output 12V, but only if they receive the correct signal from the powered device.

It does. It's just a dumb 12V PSU.

I mean, it's fine. It works well for its purpose and a ham probably won't get confused.

Why the hell would they use a USB connector instead of just a standard barrel jack? :wtf:
