Genuine or Fake Nagoya NA-771
« on: December 18, 2017, 08:09:28 pm »
I've just received one of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00MGGL9DI/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At first glance it looks genuine but reading the Nagoya site, it raises a couple of alarm bells, one the packaging is almsot but not quite like the genuine one, rough back, rounded bottom corners but not quite rounded enough and a few other things.

Seems I broke my own rule and bought without reading the reviews.

So, is there enough in my observations to say 'fake' and if so, how the hell does one report a fake to Amazon?

You likely could take photos and send them to them and get their feedback.. also, how does it work, is there any way you can test the SWR too- I would worry about that.

One telling feature is that the seller is Nagoya.  While not a guarantee as Amazon probably doesn't curate the names closely, if there was a fake seller using their name, they could probably get amazon to stop that seller from selling products under their name.  All of the other products from the seller seem to be Nagoya branded as well.

It sort of ticks the boxes for being a fake, the rounded corners on the package aren't as rounded as they look on the Nagoya website, the printing of the QR code isn't great, the back of the pack is rough and not smooth like the front but the text on the antenna looks very close.

It seems to work quite well, I have nothing to measure how well it's matched or where it's resident but I can borrow a VNA and find out.

I'm figuring the next time I buy one I'll not buy Nagoya as they're just too difficult to avoid fakes.

Nagoya changed the connectors to  a shorter bullet shape some time back.
