HP 8566B Tracking Gen?
« on: January 29, 2018, 06:53:20 pm »
Hi,
yet another TG thread... I recently got that spectrum analyzer. A really nice machine, even though it is known as the 'boat anchor' :-)
My network analyzers only cover the range up to 6GHz. It would be handy sometimes to go higher, so I wonder whether that's possible. I have already seen various TGs for the 8566B, but they all cover only the baseband up to 2.5GHz. I know there was a HP 85644 or so, but this is unobtanium and too expensive.
So I wonder whether there is a design of a TG at least to 10GHz or so? 20GHz is probably difficult to build, but 10GHz should be possible.
On the other hand, I have an 8341A sweeper which goes up to 20GHz, I wonder whether it could be theoretically possible to sync the spectrum analyzer to the sweeper...
It would be really handy to be able to make network measurements above 6GHz, but a 8510 NWA or so is probably unobtanium as well :-(
