Rohde & Schwarz TSMU Radio Network Analyzer
« on: July 01, 2018, 05:14:06 pm »
I have purchased a Rohde & Schwarz TSMU Radio Network Analyzer from ebay and would like to use it as a spectrum analyzer from 80Mhz to 3Ghz. I know there are the original software ROMES but it has too many features that I do not need and is very expensive.

Does anyone have experience we can use this device as a pure spectrum analyzer ?

Grüss Gott  :-+
Can you make an Review (German or English) who you describe how it works and what you have to spend (like Software licence).
I am afraid to buy such special technical gear from ebay becouse the Software is mostly very expencive and or not available for the "normal" customer.

A nice man from R & S service kindly sent me a zip file with all driver versions and documentations. The firewire connection works now.

The documetation and the installer programs are only for the firewire interface.  I'll ask for permission first.

I was just curious to see more info about the unit, because I couldn't find any technical specifications online. Too bad that the documentation is only about the firewire.

Thank you very much for the effort of contacting R&S again, and for your good will.  :-+

Do you have any link with technical specifications about the RF part, please?
I found online that the RBW is 10KHz. Is this fixed? Can it be adjusted while measuring?

LATER EDIT:
They are all sold now.

Romes need license, in the world, just few people use it, if you still like RS TSMx seris, you can search Ebay, TSML, it is very cheap. can connect the Nemo Outdoor software, the software can download from Internet may free.

English: Basically I am asking if someone wants to sell me one unit cheap, so that I can try to adapt my VMA Simple Spectrum Analyser software for it.

Current CMU200/CRTU version looks like this:

After some research I have come to the conclusion, that this device is useless without on of both software packages:

"R&S ViCom Programming Interface" -> Allows programming custom measurement software for the TSMU.
"R&S ROMES" -> Ready to use software for the TSMU.

Both options cost money (probably many times more than what people have paid for their second hand devices) and no documentation is available for free.

This voids my interest, as I have no means to adapt my software for the R&S TSMU.

Vitor

Vicom is for DEV use, ROMES is very expensive, 20K Euro price,  use the 3PV software, just like Nemo Outdoor, TEMS Investigation etc, btw, Rohde Schwarz no long point in the scanning receiver area, no mean to integrate it;

if you want to use the scanning receiver, try to use the DRT4311B, this is Boeing technology (military components), if you want to use a cheap one, Pctel scanner is.

I think the point is that theses devices are only interesting for hobby use, IF:

- You can buy them very cheap, because nobody values them.
- You can develop/use software that makes the device act as a spectrum analyzer.
- You get above cheap device performance: like R&S spectrum analyzer performance at the price of an NWT4000 clone.

Other than that, I doubt there is any interest...

Vitor
