I cant imagine why this would be but are there esoteric satilites whose data is not available on the internet because no one made a connected uplink for whatever reason?

I mean unencrypted stuff like weather or scientific.

I mean is there any cool data streams being broadcasted down that are not live streamed to the internet for whatever reason.

I am looking for a good reason to build a satilite downlink. It seems cool to build a waether sat reciever but if this information is reliably livestreamed online by the satilite owner its pretty useless unless you are somewhere without internet.

Satellite is one of the the primary distribution method for NOAA/NWS weather data, called NOAAPORT. Most of the data is available online, though some of it only through paid services. There are a few companies who's primary business is just running a NOAAPORT downlink and packaging up some of the data for reliable internet access by paid clients, as the public NOAA ftp services have limited datasets and tend to get bogged down under heavy load during major severe weather events.

For example, the processing systems for NEXRAD radar spit out data in two formats - Level 2 data is a large lump data file containing an entire volume scan at full resolution, while Level 3 data is further processed and split up into individual radar products at lower resolution and produces many small files. Level 2 is not available over the internet from NOAA, though the University of Iowa has a public level 2 server and there are several paid services that offer level 2 data feeds. Level 3 data is available direct from NOAA FTP, but this is not always reliable. Both are distributed via NOAAPORT, along with much more.

There are also data feeds directly from the GOES satellites, such as the EMWIN feed from GOES-East. EMWIN is also available online, though.

I remember playing with the old 10 foot satellite dish my dad had, this was about 20 years ago after it was already pretty much obsolete. We managed to find a few live feeds from news sites with the reporters getting ready for the broadcast, joking with each other and cursing and stuff. I dunno if that stuff is still used but it might be fun to look around.

I don't think that there is much out there unencrypted, these days.

I got an old C-band dish and watched the feeds and some programming, just about 10 years ago... then I converted the dish to 13cm for ham ATV.

Feel free to convert it, over here it's called a 10 foot dish, I'd prefer we all used metric but that isn't the case currently so I'll stick to the standard units used in my location.
