6dbi is not high gain at all, and antenna gain is often overstated. That little "I" means isotopic. While technically a valid number, it is often used in marketing to confuse customers thinking it's better than it actually is. As far as cables go, at that frequency, I'd use something little thicker. RG8X or above. Larger the better.
Having said that, all you need is what accomplishes your goal. If this is a fixed location to fixed location communication, I'd use whatever works. Sometimes RG58 is good enough.
In my lab, I use anything from Andrew Helix to RG58.
