Body heat powered watch
« on: November 10, 2017, 04:16:31 pm »
Hi,
I found today advert of this watch:
https://www.powerwatch.com/
Sniff, sniff... am I the only one smelling BS?  :bullshit:

According to this article:
http://www.electrochem.org/dl/interface/fal/fal08/fal08_p54-56.pdf
Seiko build such a watch but the cell was providing only 22 uW of energy. I strongly doubt it is possible to power a device with a display and a wireless communication from such source.
What do you think? Looks like a subject for a debunking video.

Piotr

Dave did a video on this, no it's hopeless, there is not enough temperature difference to make the power.

I can't think why they're bothering. A photovoltaic panel is going to be much thinner and more efficient.... and a watch has a dirty great window on the front.  :palm:
Best Regards, Chris

They could have put a solar cell and say that the cell is just to add to "body power"   :-DD, and actually power the watch only by the solar cell and a battery. At least solar cell is proven to work and the product won't fail.
