« on: January 12, 2016, 08:20:01 am »
Dave,

Its time for a new Kicad review!

maybe on Ubuntu 14.04!!

As you will know Kicad has been extensively updated over the last 12 months, due to CERN input.

I don't understand Ubuntu 14.04 - particularly people who want the latest version of KiCad on it. Why do people insist on using an old version of Ubuntu Geriatric Giraffe instead of something recent, and then also try to get recent software? :-//

The whole idea of designated stable releases is for stability in managed arrangements. I run Debian across a cluster of 45 machines at my school in computer labs used by students and professors. As much as I'd like to have the latest software on them, it's a lot of work because of all the hidden problems that can pop up with hundreds of users across dozens of computers (esp. when some of the users are stubborn professors and think "the software is shaped a bit differently now" is a problem). If I used Ubuntu, I'd use an LTS release (Debian releases slowly enough for my school's cadence).

Why so many home users??
