Large attachments seemingly kills your post
« on: October 24, 2017, 05:31:46 am »
Tested a new post attaching some large images, just over 2MB each.
Posted the topic, there is a short delay then it goes back to a new post again.

Someone might want to help test this. If you had a wall of text you would lose it.

Depending on the browser, pressing back button may return the text.

It refreshes on the current page so there is no going back as far as I can tell.

However when you lower the size down under 1MB and try attaching and posting say 5 images. It comes up with a warning saying a limit to 2MB and there is a "back" link. So that works ok.

Now it's saying I've already submitted this post but it is nowhere to be found. Changed the topic and it worked.

With the new trend in offsite image hosting been totally unreliable long term it's annoying going to a forum and the images are all gone.

The moment you hit the Attachments link there's a plain listing of the file types allowed AND Restrictions:
Restrictions: 25 per post, maximum total size 2000KB, maximum individual size 1000KB

It's up to the user to do the simple maths to ensure the 2 Mb and 1Mb maximums aren't exceeded.

Unlike other online sites this forum doesn't upload your selected files until you hit Post, instead it spits it all back at you if you've exceeded the restrictions.

BTW Shock, why would you want to upload such large images, do you really need such detail or something ?  :-//

I did have this kind of special need like this example -> HERE, not common though, but it does really hit the attachment size limit in single post.  :P

I generally prefer to post larger replies from the computer where I use MS Word to write the submission and then simply copy and paste the script into the reply box, occasionally I will just type the post on the fly but I always copy the text prior to posting just in case it all gets lost, this cannot be done from the TV where I need to be a bit more careful with spelling, grammar and such.

Posted from the Smart TV on the fly without any support or redundancy plan.   :scared: :phew:

Word, Notepad .... anything you can type text into.  If desperate, you could even open up another forum reply window and type it there - just remember to copy it to the real window.  Using Word has an advantage in that it has auto save, which can be useful if there is a power failure or some similar catastrophic event.

There are many of us who have spent a lot of time typing up a post only to have something go wrong ... and we've lost the lot.  You learn how to reduce your risk of loss.

I'm aware of the restrictions, but it doesn't allow you to go back with a warning that the file attachments are too big, it just dumps the whole post. I've never come across this before as I tend to embed them from other sites and have never uploaded anything sizable.

Thanks for telling me how to cut and paste and stuff though, that has opened up a whole new world to me. :D
