The µSupply suggestions

Dear Dave
Thanks for your great work.
I have some suggestions for your supply.
1-why not use the preboost regulator as the final output, why not eliminating the linear stuff? Why not using just switch mode supply? Or why not using the MCU to do Switch mode stuff?
2-as you probably know allegro has made devices for current measurement, they use hall effect for measuring current and they have a very low impedance path for measurement, why not use a ACS712 part? in this way you can eliminate the current sense power dissipation completely! It uses just a 1.2mOhm resistance! You are already wasting 1w in your 1ohm current sense circuit.
3-why not using just a more modern MCU, like cortex-m with more I/O lower price and a 12-16bit adc? you can go with cortex m0 from st, they have 12bit adc and are very cheap and they can go to 48MHz,or why not use a cortex m4 from free scale? they have 16Bit adc and are damn cheap too?

Rerouter:
1. switchmodes have rather harsh harmonics and noise that needs to be filtered out, the linear is good for 100KHz, and an LC filter in between the stage can easily clip it down to that,

2. hall effect devices are somewhat unreliable as noise from the switching regulator inductor could well make it read nonsense,

3. pic and atmel are more hobby grade, which he was aiming for, not commercial production,

T4P:
Cortex M4 ?  He wanted something easy to prototype ...
Cortex M4 BTW costs 20$ ... AND THAT'S NOT CHEAP! [text deleted]

Rerouter:
very fair point dave.s , if a little sharp at the tounge :/

Hey jerk he is already into SMD, and wanted to machine solder the boards, and by using a better MCU he could have probably eliminate the cost of external ADC, DAC and Refrence Voltage and IO expander chips! He can buy Cortex m4 @ 10USD in single qty (MK20DX128ZVLQ10) with 16bit adc or he can use Cortex m0 with 12bit adc  @ very low prices!
Try to be not miserable by just using AVR or PIC!  You idiot fan boy!
And he can use Keil MDk for free till 32K bytes of code!
