( Product Review ) UNI-T UT15C Volt Stick IP65 CAT IV 600V
« on: July 30, 2011, 12:30:21 am »
There is not much to say when you buy one such Volt Stick,
the functionality is well presented by the LED and the labels on it.

The latest and most modern version of those is the one with the LCD,
working as voltmeter.

This specific LCD actually steals 1-3V from the input voltage so to use it so to power on it self.
And so the reading it is a bit off by 1-3V.

Every electrician who had seen this specific version, he had fall in love with it,
because it has the continuity mode ( powered by two AAA batteries) among the other functions.

The Volt Stick needs the batteries only for the continuity mode, and to power one small torch light ( LED) at the direction of the probes, so to be able to see where the probes gets in.

The specific volt stick can do everything:
Voltage AC/DC
DC Polarity
Phase sequence detection
Continuity
Single hand operation.

The specific design is so successful and fresh ( 2010 ),
and the market started to fill up with such clones in a record time.

The body of it, it is totally sealed, it’s impossible to open it for a teardown.

For detailed specifications download the manual.

The cable of it has markings:
AWM 1803  E199279 VW-1   80 Celsius   18AWG  2000V LEO HUI

I selected the UNI-T clone, because it was the most reasonable priced.
I did tested it, works well, its simple to use.
There are no safety concerns by my opinion all those clones are made by the same materials.

Dislikes:
The buzzer it’s not that powerful (but good enough)
The ends of the probes, looks a bit more exposed than it should,
If you thinking to work on electrical panels.
If all that you need is to stick it in a wall plug, it is ideal for the task.

Conclusion:
The most talented Volt Stick, in the market today.
I do not believe that some one could possibly think to add another one function on it.
And so this design will live as long there is mains plugs in our planet.

If it happens to own one like this from another brand, please post similar pictures of it.
I would be more than interested to learn, if some one could possibly spot any differences.  :)

OK for the money?
Joe Smith just tested it, but I'm not OK with that 2-resistor chain when there was room for 4 with a little HV jelly.
