ut71e for $30 and AC+DC mode (is it truth?)
« on: October 01, 2018, 07:27:41 am »
Hi
I pic UT71E at sunday market and play now. I see a lot of silly treads about CAT ratings  :blah:
But what abouT  accuracy and tolerance?

The main feature for me is TrueRMS AC+DC
Is it works adequate here?

Which part of manual isn't clear to you?

All is in specification. It is like many other cheap meters, useless for anything serious, useless for audio hobbyists, useless for electricians,  maybe it can be ok for arduino players or  checking accu voltage,   or car battery.

Accuracy and tolerance are ok, only the CAT ratings are more or less fake. There are different version of the PCB. Especially in Europe the chance to get a more secure version is given. E.g. my 71E has big HRC fuses what the international versions often don't have. But it was missing PTCs even it has places on the PCB for them. Concerning the quality of the routing on the PCB the European version is as bad as the international one. So if you know about these things the 71E is ok to use.

I have/had others till I decided no more this junk. Look at ac error above 1kHz and you will see how bad it is, see number of digits  for error ...  it is junk.

There are several reviews on youtube. I believe they didn't have too many problems tolerance wise when new and can be manually calibrated. There are a few discussions on the forum here about calibration and upgrading safety.

Asking if a meter possibly 5 years old with an unknown history will still be as accurate is a coin toss. $30 USD is not too bad value wise, I would make an offer though. The meter came with a pouch, probes, temp probe, USB data cable, alligator clips.

This tread about UT71E not about "others" china meters
Don`t post here please since I have few words about  "other" polish emigrants   too 8)

And who the hell are you? Come back in a week and see if you can be more civil!

If such costs 30$, I would say good price/value.
Can't comment about tolerances but as already noted - refer to specs. Manufacturers as Uni-T usually do not lie there.

Accuracy is only a small part of the equation.

Those freebie DT830M meters are accurate but you wouldn't call them good meters.

There is a video out there somewhere of a guy pulling one along with a boat and later dragging it down the stairs with a rope.  The meter survived just fine.   Not bad for a free meter.
