Agilent OLED display issues?
« on: March 26, 2019, 12:22:43 am »
I'm looking at a used Agilent U1253b with the OLED display. I understand the u1252a's had major issues with fading over time. Does anyone know if they fixed this with the revised B model or have any personal longterm experience with the 1253b?

And if OLED is inherently flawed and there no way to "fix" it, why would they choose to continue using this technology in their revised model after having so many obvious problems with the A?

Thanks fellas!

The U1252A is a LCD screen not a OLED

I’ve been hesitant to get a OLED display from keysight after their demo unit at a trade day looked horrible.

Oops, typo, u1253a had major issues. The 1253b looks great, and if the screen were to die tomorrow I could replace it.....but I'm worried about the screen dying a few years from now when the part is unavailable. At that point it becomes a paperweight. Pretty stupid idea on the part of Agilent.....and the fact that they carried it over to the B models is just irresponsible. Might be wise to go with Fluke or Brymen.

And if OLED is inherently flawed

Depends what you mean by "flawed" - some people don't see it as a flaw.

why would they choose to continue using this technology in their revised model after having so many obvious problems with the A?

Because "Oooooh! Shiny!".

Enough people still want multimeters that chew through batteries like there's no tomorrow and fade after a couple of years to make it viable.
