The high-current shunt (sense) also includes a long copper PCB trace, AN8008 PCB layout is not so great.
Changing the fuse wiring could cause troubles depending on where you land the end.

that should not be an issue if you extend down towards the jacks like i did - that track is thick and exists on both sodes of the fiberglass.

Can anyone recommend a source for good replacement of the banana plugs, the ones in the multimeter are total garbage, as you can see from the above photo.

they may look cheap, but they can handle far more than 10A

what do you have in mind? because the only upgrade would be to drill the case and try to fit these:

i doubt they will fit into the case myself - you dont have much room.

I was thinking machined sockets. The existing spring ones get loose and have problems maintaining good contact with the leads.

I think it's the chinesium plating, it oxides and makes crappy contact. The slit makes a sharp edge that chews up banana plugs I find.
These pics of "gold" banana jacks are just sleeves. Probably plated steel.
A rich man would find Mill-max or something that ends up costing more than the DMM.
The AN8008 rotary switch is still shit, it's always oxidizing and not reliable.

a lot of those are gold plated copper,
but they are still solder-mount.

you need to use gold plated leads too,
if you dont, galvanic corrosion will get you - same goes for using gold leads in tin-plated sockets.

You get these sockets from Hirschmann (brass, gold plated, AC/DC 1000V, 32A, CAT II, contact resistance 5mOhm, threaded connection) e.g. at RS components. The black one has order no. 972354-100 (other colors red -101, blue -102, yellow -103, green -104 and yellow/green -188 and some more colors). And there is a version with 6.3 x 0.8 tab connector (order no. 972356-1..). With the order no. it should be easy to find other suppliers.

Hi,

It is so hard to find the 200mA fuse for ANENG AN8008...

I don't understant why they choose so small fuse as they are plenty of space inside the multimeter...

Have you find some 200 mA compatible fuse at reasonable price with shipping ?

Thanks

What type of protection diode is the one near 200mA fuse? I replaced it with standard 1N4007  but I'm not sure.

EDIT

I found it. It's SMBJ6.5CA

Quite different from an ordinary diode.  Also note that there are two types - unidirectional and bidirectional.  Important to use the correct one.

It is a TVS and my pic has SMBJ6.8CA although the pc board says "4007". Problem can be the high capacitance upsets pF capacitance measurements- unless that is correctly nulled out in the EEPROM.
