Bonding testing with a Fluke 289
« on: June 16, 2016, 03:41:40 pm »
Hello,

I am doing some shopping for a milliohm meter for my company. We need something that can test for the quality of bonding for newly installed static dischargers on aircraft. The range we need to measure is 20-50 milliohms. So, my question is whether or not the Fluke 289 is accurate enough at that range to warrant purchasing one.

Thanks in advance for any info/advice!

Paul

Although a nice meter it cant reliable measure down to milliohms, nor can any multi meter with just two leads.
You really need four-wire measurement for this.

Fluke 289 DMM is not a suitable tool for such low resistance. Dedicated milliohm-meter would be a proper choice, such as HP/Agilent 4338B, IET LOM-510 or similar instruments.

Ok. That's what I was afraid of. I was really hoping to be able to get the extra functionality for the money, though. Oh well.

As for a dedicated milliohm meter, the two you mentioned are a bit more than we're looking to spend. I was looking at the BK Precision 310, the Extech 380460, and the Instek GOM-801H. Is there one of those that you would recommend? Or is there another in that price range ($400-600)?

The Metrahit 27M is slightly cheaper, but still over budget.
