AWGs: Hantek 16-bit and OWON 14-bit

Hi guys

Has anyone used the Hantek HDG2000-series with 16-bit res, or OWON AG1000s with 14-bit res?

The AWG seems to be one of the higher-end products Hantek makes and the photos of it and its display are pretty nice.

I can't find any prices for the OWON XDG-series and have enquired with the factory.

There seems to be a lot of 14-bit AWGs, like the Juntek JDS6600 with a rated sine THD of 0.8%.
Hantek HDG2000s are 0.1%
OWON AG1022 is 0.2%
OWON XDG3000s are 0.05%

I could not find any THDs listed for the AWGs that come built into any DSOs.

Somebody must own one of the above units? I know the JDS is popular.

I just had a look at Sigilent's site and the SDG6022X, 16-bit, 0.06% sine distortion <1MHz $1500 at Amazon - wowza

There is obviously more to the sine THD than just the bit resolution, since THD can be close to 1% from one manufacturer and less than 0.1% from another, with both models having the same bit count. It would seem that really low THD good enough for THD analysis is not possible with AWGs, but it is always appealing to me to have a low number there. I guess for most things that AWGs and DSOs do well it is better to have stable frequency and amplitude, and that is actually more important to me too, at least in my venturing into digital test equipment land goes.

I have some ppb fixed-frequency oscillators for real THD measuring.

Yeah, it's our premium product ATM.

Would something from the SDG2000X range suit you better, THD 0.075 and starting from $499.

Data sheet THD's are what they are.

Measured THD from SDG1032X , level 999,9mVpp and 1.000mVpp (between these, V range change), 50ohm, 1kHz
Meter Keithley 2015THD  and harmonics range set for 9  and input 50ohm terminator.
1kHz 999.9mVpp (50ohm)  THD 0.0197

Rigol DG1000Z, DG800 and DG900 series is also <0,075%.. (10Hz-20KHz)...

For detailed audio analysis, very low distortion analog or audio card technology based SG are what you want to use. Or one of dedicated audio analysers.
Picoscope 4262 has dc-20kHz generator with SFDR of 102 dB typical @ 10 kHz, -1 dBfs input.
Meaning that noise, distortion and all spurious signals are 100 db less than generated signal. Converted to %, that's a lot of zeros... Good audio card would be very good also, once you calibrate levels.

For general audio work, any of those Siglents or Rigols would be (are) more than enough.

I just heard from OWON that the XDGs are very new and only a few units are out to distributors. The XDG3082 80MHz unit is $580us.

Yes, less $$ is better and really I just want an AWG that can sync with the OWON XDS2102A to do FFTs and swept responses - Bode plots hopefully?

Regarding making Bode plots: Is there anything more to it than setting the generator to do a sweep and sync it to the scope? Or does the scope have to have specific software, like the Keysights do.

Others mention using white noise and a spectrum analyser, which for the latter, I thought the DSO's FFT was in a cheapo way.

And the 4ch X-E Siglents.

You need a DSO with dedicated Bode plot in order to get phase info also but if simple plots are only required any sweeping AWG and a DSO can be used like Dave demonstrates here:

All those videos would be great if I had sound on my computer, or if they had captioning like the OWON videos do.

Being able to see the amplitude response is usually good enough as an indicator of whether there might be questionable phase issues... if you know what you are looking at.

Hi

I asked OWON about the sine THD of the built-in AWGs for the XDS3000 scopes and it is 0.2%, which is the same as the stand-alone AG051 and AG1022. Actually, all the specs of the AG1022 match what is given for the optional scope AWG, just more expensive since it needs its own case and PSU but has more panel controls devoted to it.

The Hantek HDG2000 has 64 million points per channel (16 bit), but is let down by poorly written software (re. waveform loading speed).
If it runs on Linux, there is some hackability in it.
