buying new multimeter up to 250eur
« on: September 24, 2017, 12:44:26 pm »
Hi all,
i need advice for new digital handheld multimeter up to 250 eur.
I was worked with Uni-T 61E and Agilent U1252B until now, so i know what is quality and what not.

Most important, need good TRMS AC+DC meter, with 100Khz bandwith, (electronics repair) but  has no enough budget for those high class like Fluke or Agilent/Keysight.
Thinking about these taiwan manufacturers Brymen (85x, 86x series), Appa (505,506 models) and etc, satisfied with functions but dot know about overall quality. Or some other for recommend, can be chinese, but not UNI-T

Top Loser is selling some Keysight ones at the minute (though they might go fast) including the u1252b plus his old 87V (which is far from new but a good meter)

While Fluke 87V is good meter, it has 20kHz bandwidth... It is in fact inferior to BM689S in many specifications...
Agilent 1252 is more of a comparison, with Agilent 1252 having better DC current specifications for instance...

AFAIK the 100kHz true RMS bandwidth is tough to meet in a handheld. 99.9% of the handheld DMMs is optimised for 50Hz and beyond that the error gets huge. High true RMS bandwidth is bench DMM territory.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Nico,

There are quite few that go to 100kHz (just some:  Keysight U1252/53/72/73/82, METRAHIT ULTRA, Fluke 287/9, UT71C/D/E, UT171A/B/C, UT181A...)

Even Fluke 179 goes to 50kHZ, 87V goes to only 20kHz....

Of course, it all depends do you really need full 100kHz bandwidth.. But these are the facts..

Regards,

Sinisa

I didn't check the others but the U1252 has a 3.5% +120rdg error at frequencies over 15kHz just as I expected. There is a difference between specifying the bandwidth and being able to make accurate measurements. With a 3.5% error it makes more sense to use an oscilloscope.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Thanks all for advices.!
For sure, if i can get better quality mutlimeter with bigger bandwith for that money i will take. Need for fast read RMS values of signals.
Of course oscilloscope is must have for any detailing examination of signals.

Franky is clearing out some of his stuff.  Great deals in my opinion ($50 for Brymen - SOLD already).

I'm not a fan of CEM, but $35 + shipping may get someone else to buy?
