BWD 835 service manual
« on: September 17, 2017, 08:07:37 am »
I am looking at restoring an old BWD 835 oscilloscope (cool old scope), but cant find a service manual anywhere. Have one for the 539, 509 even an 845, but these are all fairly different to the 835.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards

Email Kevin Chant. As you probably know he has the best BWD library and know knows what he hasn't converted to pdf yet.

There's a link to email on that page.

For the only BWD I've had there was no service manual, really it was just part of the owners manual and plenty detailed enough for those with a bit of experience to fix a CRO.

Anyways, dropping 'service' from a search finds this....that you'll have to sign in  for to download or read online.

Hope it's got what you need.

Unfortunately, I found that site previously (and a couple others) that claim to have the manual and will give it to you after profering personal details. Unfortunately, after a further google search on this site (because it looked dodgy), it turns out that this is a phishing site. So dont use it. Always be careful and check before going to some of these sites, or posting them for people to follow.

In any case have found a source for a schematics and manual (835 manual, 835a schematic), so all good now, thanks for for having a look.

PS: But I do have it up and running, still need to weed out some noise from Ch1, but at least this should take out a lot of guess work for calibration and remove the need to reverse engineer. Pretty clean inside.

Hi!!

I have a BWD 835 aswell. Owned it a couple of years, its a great scope and it has been indispensable! Not least of which my car engine conversion and audio amp trouble shooting!

Its dying though, trace shakes in the horizontal direction then dissapears or turns into a dot, the power light dims and it starts making a screeching noise like fingers down a chalk board. Makes that noise for a brief second as it starts up aswell, so i'm thinking power supply problem perhaps. Just pulled it down, no obviously swelling caps or anything.

What a surprise when I search tonight and find on the second hit a thread thats 2 months old - I didn't even have '835' in the search term! Have tried looking previously to no avail.

I don't suppose you would like to share the schematics and the other information you've found with me?

Or perhaps you might like to help me fix it if you're in Sydney?

A friend of mine has a 100mHz Trio scope gathering dust he said he'd give me, but not sure how well it works or if it has the delay sweep. I might even be able to give this one to you for parts if I can't fix it or find the time. I am a mechanical engineer, so I'm a bit numpty.

I love the fact its an Australian design. I'd like to see it back as a runner

Cheers!

For those interested in this scope, Kevin Chant has now posted the manual to his page, as listed above by Tautech.
