Connector for Cambridge / LOM-510a Micro Ohm meter
« on: May 20, 2017, 05:00:15 pm »
I have a Cambridge / LOM-510a meter, but I do not have leads for it. I was able to just plug pins into connector to verify performance. Now I would like to make a proper set of leads.

Would anyone know the proper connector type for it and possibly specific connector that might offer low emf capability.
I would also appreciate any suggestion on a source for good shielded wire to use for kelvin clips.  Thank you.

These look right, the only thing is I need the male connector and these are female. The search continues....

This connector is what I used - it fits perfectly.

If you are still looking for the test clips here are some I recommend, these should take shrouded or unshroulded banana plugs.

Here are some new leads I've found but not tried. They are unguarded/shielded if that makes a difference to you, but look better than 90% of what is out there.

Thank you, korlatos and Shock.

The connector looks like a direct fit. It is nickel plated.
Do you see any thermal EMF effects with this meter or is switched mode canceling them out effectively?

Currently I am using Pomona 5940 (http://www.pomonaelectronics.com/pdf/d5940_100.pdf) with Keithley meters and that set seems to be excellent.

If thermal is no problem I am considering building a shrouded set to go from DIN 6 connector to banana plugs. This way I can measure standard resistors as well as use clips like Shock suggested.

I am also considering building low EMF binding posts right into the body of the LOM-510a meter, so I can use existing clips. Any reasons not to do that?

Did you see Robrenz's threads and videos on his precision probes, cables and modification for a pulsed/hold measurement switch?

I don't see any thermal EMF effects, but I am only using switched mode. I made an adapter box with banana jacks for it - here is the photo of it measuring a 1 milliohm resistor:

I have the LOM 510 and use this connector: Amphenol Tuchel #T3374-501

That is the one Robrenz used? Does it fit okay without modification? I was wondering if the collar interferes when it's plugged in.

Thank you, Guys. I did watch most of Rob's videos with fascination. I even have a milling machine. Unfortunately my skills do not compare to Rob's.  :)

I do like the idea with junction box. It offers a lot of flexibility between Keithley meters and this box.

I will be ordering stuff tomorrow.
