Detent Quadrature Encoders for DS1000Z
« on: October 26, 2016, 01:56:12 pm »
About a year ago I bought a DS1054Z Rigol scope. When hacked, DS1054Z is a very good bang for the buck tool, so I think is the best scope available for hobby use (only if you hack it, of course).
Still, 4 out of the 6 panel rotary encoders are non-detent encoders, which is really frustrating during use. I have 2 questions:

- Does all the DS1000Z scopes, including higher models and 2016 models, still have non-detent encoders?
- Can anyone tell me where from I can bought 4 rotary detent encoders that can replace the original non-detent ones, please?
I ordered some random detent encoders from AliExpress, but the mechanical dimensions are not the same:

Thank you, the thread you linked does contain a part number. :)
I saw the thread before, but didn't noticed the part number until now. :-\

And the second question, does anyone who bought a DS1000Z recently can confirm that the DS1000Z still has non-detented encoders, please?

All 4 of the small knobs have encoders without detents.  The only one that matters is the upper left encoder when used for selecting items from a menu.

decent user interface software would solve all of that without permanently voiding a warranty. but still..

A fifty thousand dollar UI it is not, but indecent?  Seems usable to me :-//

I digress just a bit. The only thing that I wish it would do is not require me to push the button to make a selection, such as when scrolling the menu item.

i admit i may be too harsh, as it is full of programmers that have no clue on how to work with encoders, even on premium products. they either fuck up the acceleration (like in the rigol horizontal knob) or it is not implemented at all
