Chinese 10f20 15volt multimeter batteries?
« on: July 14, 2015, 11:24:03 am »
Hi all,

Are these 15v 10f20 "multimeter" batteries unique to Chinese brands or are there any western name brands that make them?

Thanks,
rt

They've used similar square ones in AVO meters and others over the years, still available at horrible prices, so when i need something similar I just make a stack on button cells and shrink sleeve them into a pack, maybe with some copper tubing on the ends to meet the same dimensions.

Duracell and Ever Ready (Energizer) made them for AVO meters but there is less demand for such these days. The battery is a BLR121 (B121). The early AVO batteries were Zinc Carbon but the Duracell and Ever Ready types were IIRC Alkaline and lasted a very long time. They were expensive though.

The BLR121  is also to be found in some photographic equipment so there remains a need for these to be made. For how long though ?  The AVO is still a NATO supported instrument so a NATO numbered 15V battery remains a requirement for NATO. NSN 6135-99-791-1875

I attach the MOD spec sheet for the battery.

Rapid still sell an Alkaline version at around £6 and it has the NSN on it so looks to be from a NATO parts supplier  :-+

I attach the Rapid Data sheet as well.

Just do a search on BLR121 and ensure you buy an Alkaline for long life and low leakage risk.

Alternative that uses batteries available cheaply from the Pound Shop (IIRC £1 for 8 cells) :
