Hi,
I have a new Ds4014 that I have updated to the latest firmware and made a few other tweaks.
The firmware update procedure states to run a self-cal after the firmware update.
Is this a good idea? The scope is brand new. Is the self-cal going to overwrite the factory calibration or does it do something different?
many thanks
Lee

Self cal routines don't write over factory calibration, which is generally protected behind a password and is in a service menu. In fact, a run of the self-cal after a warm up period is the first step in the full calibration for the DS4000 series.

Yes.

The "factory calibration" of machines with self-cal is probably just somebody at the factory pressing the "self-cal" button.
Your manual says:
Key words: "At any time" - you should really do it before any important measurement.
Or ... just relax. These things are only about 3% accurate (see manual).
Use it to look at wiggly lines on screen, the numbers are really just ballpark figures.

Off to buy some bits to make the 5-1 cable.
