  • I admit to being deplorable
The day Al Gore was born there were 7,000 polar bears on Earth.
Today, only 26,000 remain.

and another recall..  :palm: :palm:

this is why a clamp meter should be just a clamp meter, with no bells and whistles inputs and extra circuitry to screw things up.  |O :horse:

"Name of product: Digital clamp meters

Hazard: The meters can fail to give an accurate voltage reading, resulting in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is low or off, posing an electrocution hazard.

Remedy: Replace

Recall date: May 25, 2017

Units: 1,700 (in addition, about 20 were sold in Canada) "

GOOD LUCK getting  -ALL-  1720 units back!!!!!!    :bullshit:  :scared:

WOW, is the Extech MA63 a rebagde of the Uni-T UT211B?

I had a problem with the Extech EX623.  Not reading voltage like in this recall, Extech replaced it 4 or 5 times, and never fixed the issue, finally took a hammer to it and placed the remains in the trash.

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE:
Extech Recalls Digital Clamp Meters
Dear Valued Extech Customer:

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, FLIR Commercial Systems, Inc. has announced a recall for certain models of Extech digital clamp meters. We have determined that you may have purchased one of these models. Please read this notice carefully and call Extech’s recall hotline or visit Extech’s recall webpage to confirm if your digital clamp meter is included in the recall.

This recall stems from consumer reports that the clamp meter’s input terminal screws are loosening. The loosened screws can create an open circuit at the test lead input jack of the meter, causing the meters to give inaccurate voltage readings. An incorrect reading can cause the user to falsely believe that the electrical power of the test subject is low or off, in turn, posing an electrocution hazard.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled clamp meters and complete our Recall Submission Form, call Extech toll-free at 855-239-8324 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or email meter.recall@extech.com

Consumers should not return the recalled clamp meters to the retailer where they were purchased as retailers are not prepared to take the units back.

The affected clamp meters units were sold during the period of January 2016 to April 2017, and were distributed under the Extech brand. The following model numbers are affected by the recall: EX650, EX655, MA160, MA61, MA63. Serial numbers in the following format are included in the recall: R15XXXXXXX to R17XXXXXXX. Reference to the model number and serial number of your monitor will determine whether it is affected. The model number can be found on the front of the unit and the serial number is on the back. Serial numbers ending with “A” are not included in the recall.

That is sad news, you should have got your money back
and let Extech take a hammer to it, and put it in their trash.

Just about EVERY clamp meter with extra s*** on it seems to be on some RECALL list, Fluke included!

At least Extech and Fluke are doing the right thing to recall these dangerous duds  :-+ not that most owners or pawn shops will ever check   :-//

One can only fearfully IMAGINE :scared: :scared: :scared:  just how bad the cheap 'all in one' clamp meters are from other manuf***turers
that do not gas about 'recalls' and let their cheapskate target buyers 'take their chances..'   :palm:

I check ALL my meters on the recall lists and lucky so far

I also contact sellers if I spot a recall in their auction or ad and let them know.
What they do after that is anyone's guess, but a wise seller SHOULD send back the recall and get a new or fixed one back
for an easier sale, or better price  :-+ and sleep soundly at night  :=\
