Title: Fan noise from Rigol DG1022Z waveform generator and DS1054Z os oscilliscope...
Post by: mtolesen on March 28, 2017, 08:59:42 am
Hello,

I got both the Rigol DG1022Z waveform generator and Rigol DS1054Z os oscilloskop, but the fan noise from them are really loud.

I know that there are many instructions how to replace the fan in the Rigol DS1054Z os oscilloskop, but does anybody know if i can replace the fan in the the DG1022Z waveform generator, using the same fan type as the Rigol scope, or have anybody tried to replace the fan in the DG1022Z waveform generator?

Thank you very much.

Nobody knows about this...?

I would probably get a low noise fan and replace it and you will be good.
Make sure the new fan has a airflow that is high enough
But there are plenty of fans these days that have low noise and good airflow.

I have no experience with the Rigol but I have exchanged lots of fans in Agilent gear.

What do you mean by 'loud'?  Do you have any reasons to believe that the fan in your unit is louder than normal (i.e. defect or incorrectly mounted) or are you just not satisfied with its performance?
Have you done some research yourself?  At least the fan of the 1054z has been discussed here at length.  In a quiet room it is audible, in a factory or even moderately busy lab I'd expect it to blend in to the background noise.

I found it offensive and replaced the fan with a quieter unit.  I think my oscilloscope gets now a bit warm, but since the ambient temperature is fairly low, I don't foresee a problem.

Hello guenthert,

Well with "loud" i mean noisy, i have both instruments in my home lab with no background noise so when both instruments are switched on it is a bit too noisy.

I do know that i can change the fan in the Rigol 1054a scope, but my question was more about the fan in the DG1022Z waveform generator which i also would like to replace and i was wondering if i can replace this fan with the same as the one in the Rigol scope?

Open up the DG1022, check the fan specs, and find a more silent one with similar cfm.
The noise however, could also be made by turbulence of the fangrill.
