Interesting... I wonder if this was inspired by Mu Optics.

It would be nice if it could be hacked for use with many devices.

So I look, I download the Tech Specs pdf and no where do I find thermal resolution or frame rate specified.

Looks to be firmly aimed at tossers with iPhones and money who would find such technical details confusing.

Unlikely. It was more likely inspired by the deep pockets and indiscriminating urge of Apple fanboys to buy accessories.

They have stated that they will make versions available for 'selected models' of Android phone later in the year.

To follow shortly after the iPhone version it says in the press release. Lots of iPhone 5 and 5s all the same size, so many different variations of Android phones all shapes and sizes... it was a nobrainer to develop for the iPhone first.

All I want is an USB version. USB OTG will do it then, provided the device enumerates as a regular webcam.

I don't think Fluke will be thinking it's a huge joke right now  :)

Thermal vision is about to go mainstream, even down to being used in toys (one of FLIRs application areas now according to the press release)

Doubt it, but I have no doubt the Mu optics muppets will start whining about their idea being ripped off (if anyone copied anyone, they probably copied ir-blue)

Glaring omission in the "Tech Specs" section - my money is on somewhere between 16x16 and 80x80

You know, it would be really crazy if it turns out FLIR had bought up Mu Optics. ;D

80x80 perhaps. I figure the E4 costs $1k, so $350 for the same camera but without the battery and screen (these come with the phone), without the industrial build quality (no IP54 rating), and without the pelican-like case etc. seems to me like a reasonable choice.

If that's the case, then I hope the prices of the other cameras will follow a similar trend. :)

Me too :) It'd be awesome to have a very basic thermal imager that was actually affordable to people like me...

Images shown so far look worth £200 whatever the resolution. Gazillions times better than a Fluke thermal POS at twice the price.

Plus who knows what hacking might come up with! .....

I've preordered one

I think this is the year that thermal vision starts to become available at Walmart and B&Q, a commodity not a speciality.

Under $350...

I would just save up some more for an E4. And seriously? Hide and Seek to a whole new level?
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

I wonder if they'll be using the same sensor as in the E series, perhaps with a smaller lens that uses only part of the sensor's resolution

And what would you use it for that would justify an extra $600? Surely that $600 could be better spent?
