HP 5386A I/O error
« on: June 05, 2018, 12:43:27 am »
Hey guys,

New to the forum.  I'm considering purchasing an HP 5386A but it gets an I/O Error at self test. The A5 board doesn't seem to be too complex but I have zero experience with HP test gear and HPIB.  I was also looking at an HP 5385A that passes the self test but I would prefer the 3GHz high end of the 5386A.  Looking for any comments on the I/O error and whether this is a rabbit hole I should avoid.  Both units have the ovenized oscillator (Opt 004).  I read somewhere that the 5386A is a far superior unit than the 5385A but the comment lacked any specifics as to why.

I'm a Ham Radio guy who has recently been re-acquiring some test equipment after many years of not servicing anything....I just miss the smell of smoke !!

Thanks,

Bjw
