19th Feb 2014. A new firmware release 1.21.0 has appeared on the Flir website which appears to have multiple countermeasures specifically aimed at preventing hacking.
Until otherwise proven, assume this version is not hackable, and may never be. One sighting of this version has been reported on a new production unit (19th Feb), and one UK dealer has indicated (13th Feb) that Flir have been pulling stock back from dealers to "Upgrade".
If thinking of buying, it is essential
now that you verify with the seller that firmware version is 1.19.8 and make it clear that your order is conditional on this. At the very least, make sure the seller has a return policy that would allow you to return it if it has the later firmware.
If the dealer doesn't have physical stock, assume that any new stock they get will be later firmware.
Also be aware that any unit returned for warranty repair is likely to be "upgraded" to non-hackable firmware.
All firmware versions up to and including 1.19.8 are hackable. There is no known benefit or issues with any of the earlier versions.
Jan 29rd 2014 is the latest reported manufacture date we have seen with 1.9.8 firmware.

Yes, it has a 320x240 60fps sensor - same as the £4700 E8 model and even more expensive Ex0 series
