How to remove trim strips from HP 8714ET handles?
« on: May 24, 2018, 01:13:06 am »
All the ones from HP I encountered in the past had adhesive backing, but this one doesn't seem to.
I used Exacto blades to lift the sides and there doesn't seem to be any adhesive.
However I can't find any clipping features either and the front doesn't budge at all.
How do these things come off???

They slide forward towards the front of the handles.

They slide forward towards the front of the handles.

I'm sure that's what they were designed to, but mine were really jammed in on the front and age made them brittle, so they decided to break instead of sliding :(

In future if you think the plastic is brittle you can get them nice and warm with a heatgun, that will soften them up a little.

Good idea.
I'll try to remember that.
This unit is really well built and mine is also VERY clean.
I'm looking at doing an LCD conversion on this.
I'm leaning towards your analog VGA approach. Adding the missing parts for the digital interface seems a lot more work and I'm not sure if the results are any better.
