HP 166X Logic Analyser HDD upgrade
« on: June 05, 2018, 09:30:31 am »

Hi,

My 1660E arrived with a HDD that appears to have had a head crash. I bought it understanding it had a problem.

The bad news is that a number of CF card -> 44 pin IDE adapter boards I tried failed to work with it.

The good news is that the following SD card -> 44 pin IDE adapter board works a treat...

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/T-Secure-Digital-SD-SDHC-SDXC-MMC-Memory-Card-to-IDE-2-5-2-5-Inch/2055395286.html

So for a NZ$13 outlay plus an old 1Gb SD card from the used pile (and a format of the SD card once plugged into the logic analyser), I have a nice quiet 1Gb HDD in my 1660E.

Only downside is the adapter board has no mounting holes on it. So I'll have to find a plastic case (maybe an old backup tape storage case will fit) so that I can glue that down to top of the PSU with just the ribbon cable coming out.
