HP 5335 GPIB query / response
« on: April 28, 2017, 06:00:17 pm »
I've read thru a number of entries on the 5335 GPIB but can't get a response from mine.  It accepts the commands I send it as evidenced by it resetting with 're' and others but I can't get a reply for nothing.

I am using Visual Basic as well as PYVISA, both the same.

Any ideas?

btw: I've been successful with other gear from the same family like the 3335, 4586, etc.

Thanks

Hi,
the 5335A reacts as normal as other instruments, concerning GPIB commands.
I assume, you have initialized the GPIB controller in the beginning?

But first check, whether the leftmost DIP switch on the rear of the 5335A, is set to "addressable mode", i.e. pushed down.
See manual 5335A-90021, page 3-25.

In the other (up) position, Talk Only, it won't react to any commands.

If you still have problems, install TIMELAB, from John Miles, KE5FX, and run the 5335A time acquisition, which is tested working.

This is useful, anyhow, for time keeping and Allan Deviation measurements.

When I first checked the switch was up and I pressed it down prior to trying the commands.

I've tried the various initialization commands I've seen without a response.

I'll try timelab, thanks.

I checked Timelab and it can't find my adapter.  I've had problems like this with other KE5FX code for some reason.  The plot emulator works, phase noise, etc but others don't.

I'm sure my commands are getting to the unit.  Just nothing coming back.  I'll keep futzing with Timelab but for some reason I can never get his code that searches for the GPIB adapter to work.  I am using an agilent adapter by the way.  100% Agilent.
