HP16533A logic analyzer scope card upgrade to 16534A
« on: March 29, 2018, 03:29:04 am »
This info was originally published in the HP logic analyzer memory upgrade thread, but to make it easier for others to find, it deserves a thread of its own (now that it has been confirmed).

Anyway, it's a simple swap of two resistors:

On 16533A:  R810=1004   R809=0  (top side, near the Actel chip)
On 16534A:  R810=0        R809=1004

May I ask if you verified that the sample rate & input bandwidth was actually doubled?
It would be quite the deal for us muggels moving up in the world with simple resistor changes.

Yes, I did some simple tests on the ones I mod'ed using a sig gen.  At the time, I did not have a decent way of testing the rise time.

If the mod does not work, it is very easy to un-mod.

My 16534A scope card is on the water via slow boat right now (along with a 16550A). Looking forward to it arriving so I can finally get to use my cardless 16702B.

Nice to know a 16533A can be modded. Great work!

I wonder if any of the other boards have similar simple upgrade options?

I have modded 4. They run together in a 16702b.
A nice 8 channel scope  8) even if a bit too  slow.
