Was the Rigol 1000D scope w/ logic analyzer a bad product?
« on: September 15, 2013, 12:24:25 am »
I've been holding off on logic analyzer stuff even though I do want to get one because I have not found the right one.

Also after getting a DS2072 for my first scope it is quite awesome and I'm even considering getting a 4ch scope because I've had trouble watching some things that I need at least 3 channels for.

My question is what happened to the logic analyzer option for the Rigol scopes, did it just turn out to be a bad product?

Well, i do not like the multiplexed control knobs, but I don't think that DS1000D series is bad. It is just old. It was introduced probably in 2008, or so... http://www.rigolna.com/products/digital-oscilloscopes/ds1000d/ds1102d/
It's probably the cheapest mixed signal oscilloscope that you can buy...  :-+

Nope. There's a cheaper $400 hantek.
I'm not saying we should kill all stupid people. I'm just saying that we should remove all product safety labels and let natural selection do its work.

Hah. No problem. From what I hear though, the LA on that seems to be useless.

I've never used it, but user reviews back then (mostly on rcgroups.com) were not very positive. Don't remember what the issues were, probably poor UI as usual.

It wasn't bad, per se, it was just useless. All it could do was display the logic levels and trigger on them. No decoding, no advanced triggers, nada. It basically gave you sixteen extra 1-bit analog channels.

The little bit that it could do worked well.

Well, the old HP/Agilent mixed signal scopes where basically the same. Just 16 extra logic channels. Deep memory makes advanced trigger options unnecessary.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.

Yes and they had green phosphor CRTs.... There was a time when not all oscilloscopes had triggers! But one released now without one would be solidly within the realm of uselessness.
