is atten atf20b function generator any good?
« on: April 20, 2019, 03:48:02 am »
Hi all
I am planning to buy this function and according to the manual, it looks promising and it will be great addition to my lab since my current DDS has limited square and triangle up to 500KHz  but this can go higher

did anybody use it before or shall I look for another brand ?
regards

Generally it's much better if you buy something with more community support and known by other people. With this model there's no support, firmware update and who knows how many bugs does it have.
If you're looking for the cheapest of the cheap, buy something like Feeltech 3200 series. Or if you can afford, get a Rigol or Siglent ones.

How much does it cost in your country and what other brands are available?

The 30 MHz SDG1032X is $359
Ramp is still 500 KHz max but Square to full 30 MHz frequency.

We have a couple of Atten oscilloscopes.

They are awful IMO

prices here is by three times :(

I know.  ;)
So Norm Electronics Ltd in Greece is closest to you.  :(

I can find out how the factory supplies your part of the world if you like. Sometimes not all their distributors are listed on their web pages.

the problem is not the availability or closest dealer
the problem with the boarder agency which I have to pay a lot as bribe just to get it in time otherwise I have to wait like 4 months

The 30 MHz SDG1032X is $359
Ramp is still 500 KHz max but Square to full 30 MHz frequency.
Datasheet:
https://www.siglenteu.com/download/2412/

SDG1032X / SDG1062X Ramp/triangle limit out from factory carton is 500kHz.
Factory have selected this limit for specified linearity. With this limit it meet specs with all frequencies of Ramp, even if it is <0.1% (or >99.9%)  duty or most easy case 50%
It need remember what kind of bandwidth it need if it is used example for sawtooth, example 0 .. 0.1% symmetry. Triangle itself is quite easy case.
If we reduce sawtooth/triangle quality then limit can be of course higher.
I have changed my SDG1032X ramp function  (sawtooth - triangle) max frequency limit to 5MHz. Of course with this it do not meet specifications.

Here can see why Siglent set max limit Ramp freq 500kHz.

Here examples with 500kHz, 2MHz, 5MHz  (SDG1032X  Ramp max limit changed to 5MHz)

0% symmetry set value (of course in real life this symmetry is not at all true with higher frequencies, there is not hundreds of MHz class output stage).
500kHz, 2MHz, 5MHz
0% symmetry setting give maximal corner ringing (and rise time)
Note that image include total sum off errors, not only inside generator. (oscilloscope - cable - impedance match etc)

50% symmetry ramp aka triangle.
500kHz, 2MHz, 5MHz

But, 500kHz is max limit after factory out from carton. What owner do after then, well it is owners decision and responsibility..   here more about this:
https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/siglent-sdg1000x-waveform-generators/msg1307521/#msg1307521

Then for OP
@hussamaldean:
If this Atten ATF20B model price is $600  in your hand in your country (perhaps including very extremely high shipping cost and possible taxes if any) it is totally too much about this <censored word>.

How  it is possible you can not get Siglent to Iraq with reasonable price. But, reliable delivery is perhaps problem due to security etc situation in some areas?

https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/atten-atf20b-teardown/
Read this. Do you still want it with $600

I drive a LEC (low el. consumption) BEV car. Smoke exhaust pipes - go to museum. In Finland quite all electric power is made using nuclear, wind, solar and water.

Wises must compel the mad barbarians to stop their crimes against humanity. Where have the wises gone?
