« on: January 03, 2017, 04:13:18 pm »
I really need help here - is this a good multimeter to buy for 70€? It's used, almost new.

Is it good though? I can get the Brymen 233 for the same price, but the Brymen's min voltage of 600 mV worries me.

If you are looking for low Brymen prices here in europe, try with welectron.com
Keep in mind that all the BM2xx series has no Duty Cycle measure

CEM Instruments has terrible or no quality control on their meters, either their own brand or when made for others.

Plenty of teardown photos on eevblog.  Just search for CEM.

Do you have a need to measure more than 600V?

Thank you very much!
Looked for a bench DMM the last weeks, but this shop never turned up in my searches.

Just talked to them, they're very friendly - don't know about their english though. ;)

Things I learned:

 * their equipment sales branch is quite new, so this might be why I didn't see them on my searches
 * they're mainly (electronic) developers  -> they definitively have the potential to become a "go to" address
 * they're a offical Brymen distributor
 * they do have really good prices

On the negative side... I just placed an order...     one can't have enough  :-DMM

Do we have a thread where we collect (web-)shops for stuff like meters etc.?

Cheers

Why would you get a BM233?

I don't need the temperature or LoZ mode, and I dont think they are worth the 20€ price difference.

I'm looking for a general purpose, mostly electronics use multimeter.

Didn't know about the missing duty cycle on the brymens, but they are the cheapest quality multimeter (I kinda dont want to shell out more than 80 - 100€)

Just to answer about ST-9118T, take a look at the EX530 thread, it is the same meter: https://www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/multimeter-extech-ex530/msg176108/#msg176108

I just ordered a BM257s to welectron.com and can confirm that their prices are cheaper than Amazon and they kindly offer a 5% rebate to eevblog members. Brymen DMM are delivered with silicon test leads, a Brymen pouch, and a warranty of 3 years. Marco is very reactive and arranging. Thumb-up!

I can't say a disagree with the above statement.  There is the Infinite monkey theorem.

I have had three CEM DT9939.  The first was pretty nice.  Number two had several problems but again, I highly suspect someone who had no business owning a meter bought this one, tore it apart and then returned it.  The third one was again pretty nice.

The first one I bought just turned five years old and has had a pretty rough life from being loaned out along with the abuse I put it through.
