It's even better
Now XY is big, At least Rigol update firmware frequently, My poor Owon still on the same firmware as I bougth 4 years ago
-
... for certain values of "Frequently" ....
Last update was at least 10 months ago. And the update just released still has the "Pluses" spelling error. :-//

What about other things?
[Updated Contents]
--------------------
v00.04.04.00.07 2016/07/19
- Added the full-screen display in the XY mode
- Modified the Trace data of average sample mode
- Fixed the bug of system halted for wave persistance in the Zoom mode
- Fixed bugs about Measure
Does "Fixed bugs about Measure" mean the measurements now work in math mode?
-
I don't know. I haven't installed the firmware yet. Maybe someone who has done so can run through some tests to find out.
After reading about the one user who had the bad experience (LEDs misbehaving) I'm reluctant to try it. Even though I would love to have the fullscreen x-y display.
Talk about "not parsing"... I've never been able to decode much of the Chinglish in the changelogs. What does "Modified the Trace data of average sample mode" actually mean? Did this address some bug, and if so which one?

That doesn't sound like a firmware problem to me - he says the scope runs fine apart from the LEDs. Seems more like a hardware problem (bad flash memory cell?).

"average sample mode" is easy.
"Modified the Trace" sounds like they modified the wiggly line on screen.
-
On my DS4014 I've seen much more granular quantization than I ought to when taking certain measurements (e.g. it will fluctuate between 1.000V and 1.034V, nothing in-between, on a quantity that should involve heavy averaging). This suggests to me that they're doing something silly like storing the math result in an 8 bit field *after* dividing by N. IIRC I saw the same problem on my DS1054Z -- maybe this patch fixes it?
-
So you think that by "average sample mode" they might mean Average _Acquire_ mode? Or perhaps they are referring to the Measurements "average" which is something different?
"Modified the trace _data_" could mean just about anything, from modifying the wiggly line on the screen, to modifying what goes into the Measurements averages, to something else entirely. What bug could this be fixing?

It never said anything about FIXING a bug, they simply inserted a brand new bug called "Modified the trace_data...".

How did you get the update? I still see the previous version on Rigol's website.

Do all the upgrades still work after this update
?

Do all the upgrades still work after this update?
Yes, I've updated mine today without any problems.
-
All upgrades / Hacks stay there as is before
Don't forget to do a recalibration after the update
-
Updated my DS1054z. All options still working. Can't confirm the LED bug. Seems to work fine so far.

I am curious about the "Added the full-screen display in the XY mode" that was added in the 00.04.04.00.07 release. Can someone perhaps post a screenshot of that here?
-
Here you go.
-
Excellent! Thank you very much!

Is there a wiki or some other source that list the various firmware versions and when they were released? I have a fairly new 1054Z with 00.04.03.SP2 and board version 0.1.4 and I'd like to have the full size XY screen but since there appears to be some bugs I think I'll hold off for a while. Just curious about hoe frequently they do an update...

There's less bugs in this version than ever before.

Brian,
Here are the latest release notes (see attachment) - there is a history.

Download the firmware, unpack it, then read the txt files. It contains all the history with dates, starting from the first released firmware up to the current one.
- In the file 'MSO_DS1000Z Release Notes.txt' is written:
v00.04.03.01.05 2015/06/16
- ...
- Added the mutual communication with DG4000 Series
- ...
Does anyone know what "mutual communication" is about, please?
-
I can't find the firmware on rigol site (http://int.rigol.com/Product/Index/4 (http://int.rigol.com/Product/Index/4)), only 00.04.03.
Am I blind or has it moved?
Anyone have a direct link to the download?
-
It has been removed, because a user has detected a potential bug. This was discussed on a separate thread on this forum... I am too lazy to look up the thread, but you should easily find it.

Vitor

The link has been removed but the file can be downloaded from it's original location here:-
http://int.rigol.com/File/ProductSoftWare/20160914/DS1000Z(ARM)update.rar (http://int.rigol.com/File/ProductSoftWare/20160914/DS1000Z(ARM)update.rar)
That's not to suggest you should given that they must have a reason for removing the latest update link

Ok!
Thanks for both the link and the heads-up!

Do not update your scoop it will break your scoop if the bootversion is lower than 0.0.13
I had to send back my scoop for a repair. Scoop freezes or reboots at random.
Firmware was down graded by rigol.
-
So Rigol retracted the 4.04.01.01 silently without telling customers about the problem? I've got the 4.04.01.01 running on a DS1054Z with boot version 0.0.1.2. Luckily I haven't seen any issues yet.

Same here. Hopefully it remains ok. Has anyone got a link to the original post(s) on the issue? I looked the other day but couldn't find it.

Somebody found something that looked like the old jitter problem.
Not something to lose any sleep over.
Removing it while they investigate is a good sign. I means Rigol is taking their firmware very seriously.

Oh, if that's all it is then that's fine. I thought it was something like the scope crashing hard and being unrecoverable.
Thank you :-+

Robuster, where did you get that info ? (highlighted above) From Rigol ?

Yes i have that info from Rigol. They flashed an older firmware version on my scoop and the problems where solved. They told me the new firmware gives problems with older pre bootversion 0.0.13. devices. They are working on new firmware to solve the probleem.

Thanks. I think I did read that before, but I didn't twig because I was expecting something much more serious due to the post about Robuster's bricked scope.
-
It was not bricked, mostly it freezes after one to two hours. Also the scoop reboots for no reason.
I thought it was a hardware failure so I send it to Rigol for a repair.
This is what I got from Rigol:
Bootversion </= 0.0.0.12 doesn't work.
Bootversion starting 0.0.0.13: New update works.
Sometimes problems (randomly rebooting) occur with 0.0.0.13, R&D is informed and working on a new firmware.

Don't worry. It only affects his scoop.
You're scope will be just fine :-DD
-
All this stuff is confusing enough without getting the zeros and period points in the wrong places.
What we call "firmware" is what the scope calls "Software", and the scope's "Firmware" is actually something different, which is not changed by our "firmware" updates.
And if Rigol knows a method to roll back or install an earlier version of the "firmware" (actually the "Software") why don't they just tell us how to do it?
-
I have looked to the firmware/software they put on my scoop.
As you can seen it looks like a special version of 00.04.04.01.01 but then with version number 01.04.04.01.01
I hoop i can update if a new version from rigol is available.

@ Robuster
Sorry, I am just curious: How old is your scope?
-
It's 3 years old.
-
Is it possible to upgrade the boot version?
Before anyone says search the forums, I've already done several searches for this on here, but getting thousands of results, it's like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

I have asked this question many times myself. I've even directly asked a RigolUSA technician, and I've never gotten a real answer. So as far as I am aware, the answer must be "NO", at least not by any means that we users have available to us.
It is also not possible, ordinarily, to "roll back" to an earlier version of the "firmware" once a later version is installed. However, looking at the posts up above, maybe there is a way to "trick" the scope into accepting an earlier version if it can be re-named to fool the scope into thinking it is actually a later version. Unfortunately no update method that I know of will change the Boot Version.
And since Rigol didn't change the Boot Version of Robuster's scope they "fixed" up above... maybe there is really no way it can be done.
-
This is just from memory so take it with however many grains of salt you deem appropriate. There was once, way back when, a firmware update that included a boot update along with it. That's the only instance I recall seeing where the boot version was changed and it wasn't an independent thing you could install. It rode along with a firmware update, which I assume relied on whatever changed in the boot upgrade.
-
Bitseeker, is correct. I got a copy of it from Rigol a year or two ago.
-
From the discussion above I am not sure what is the latest best firmware for bootloader version above 0.0.13 ?
-
Bitseeker, is correct. I got a copy of it from Rigol a year or two ago.
Any chance you could PM a copy to me? I have a very early bootloader version on my scope, incompatible with current firmwares.
-
Has anyone wrote some good labview VI's for this model? I can't seem to find anything on NI's website outside of the old VI's written in 2012

Yes indeed. Two posts above, reply #52. ::)
