Fake BT138X-600D or NOT ? That is the question.
« on: February 25, 2015, 09:56:39 am »
Dear All,

As the BT138X-600D  triacs from NXP were only available at Mouser by thousands, I ordered some on aliexpress.
I received them, but their package seems to be of very low quality compared to the other triacs I have
of similar values from NXP (see the attached pictures).

I highly suspect that they are fake. What do you think ?

If some one has an thrustful BT138X-600D, can he post a  picture of it for comparison.

Thanks

DonĀ“t know... but.. Did you compare them just with your eyes? May be a test circuit could help you to understand if you can use them as replacement or not.

Yes, up to now, I just compared with the eyes. The difference with the other NXP triacs was so flagrant that I did not  even made an experiment, which I may do later on if this is the only way, but this needs some time and a proper setting to test
the component at full load.

I have send a message to the supplier who says that the parts are genuine.
I send also a message to NXP  with no answer up to now.

The  pins of the  triac are of  glossy metal that looks very flimsy for a 12A  triac.
The overall quality of fabrication  is very poor : printing is not even; plastic is not well pressed.

This is why I ask on the forum, hoping that someone will have a genuine part to compare.

For information, this is the message I received from NXP

From the picture, it is high possibility counterfeit part. While I would suggest you to purchase from authorized channel.

Compare the package and pin dimensions with the dimensions in the NXP Datasheet. Even looking at the picture, I'd say they don't match.
