If I am reading your requirements correctly, it is the one to be able to source up to 40mA that is going to put you into a world of hurt. This is an unusual requirement and only comes with the more serious industrial apparatus.

There is the Time 1090 that can source up to 80mA. Then make good reliable test apparatus in my experience, but they tend to have an old, clunky look and feel to them and are not to everyone's taste.

https://www.timeelectronics.com/portable-process-pressure-instruments/1090-portable-process-calibrator/

The other I am familiar with is from Beamex, now the MC6. They are used on many of our plants and have a good reputation, you will be talking serious money though, as it is a complete calibration solution.

https://www.beamex.com/calibrators/mc6-calibrator/

Those are two I am familiar with, another couple I have found that seem to offer the functionality are;

MC50.2, MC75.2 or EC25, all from Sika. I do not know anything about them. They seem to offer similar functionality to the Time unit, but are slightly higher in price.

https://www.sika.net/en/products/test-and-calibration-instruments/simulators/multifunction-simulators.html

The final one is the PIE850, again I know nothing about them. In my country they seem to be between the Time and Beamex units in terms of price, but similar functionality to Time.

https://piecal.com/product/10-50-ma-multifunction-process-calibrator-pie-850/

If you don't need to source 40mA and only need to measure, then you have a lot more options open to you that can only source up to 20mA/24mA.

Kind regards.

Just recently I got myself an "el-cheapo" calibrator but was quite amazed of its accuracy. It's the BrightWin (manufacturer?) LB02.

Build quality is more than acceptable and accuracy-wise it meets and mostly surpasses its specs by quite some margin. It's enclosed in an ultra-strong casing and comes in a nice semi-rigid box with a zipper. The probe wires are nothing to phone home about but for a calibrator, I anyway prefer just a set of banana cables with alligator clips at the other ends...

The compact size and the operation with an integral USB-chargable LiPo battery makes the instrument ideal for field applications... It really makes the life of an EE (or physicist that is...  ;) ) a lot easier. The user interface is something you've got to get used to but once familiar, it's okay-ish. I guess that's the trade-in for the small form factor of the instrument.

Please find attached a photo of the PCB inside the unit.

Cheers,
Thomas

Surely this model BRT LB02 falls in budget. And the reviews are also good.

any source explaining the working of this model in detail would be more helpful.
In order to assess its performance.

and source for buying it for fast delivery and from cheaper shipping point of view.

Thanks for the advice. Also further any other model suggestions are also welcome.

the LB02  seems pretty good for its price range ... bookmarked it.

Any suggestions as to what all those optocouplers might be used for?

[EDIT] Just found that they are actually bidirectional photo switches - TLP227A so used as relays for signal switching.

FYI, the major components of the LB02 are:

ADC: Titan Micro TM7707 (24 bit)
Reference: TI REF5025
DACs: Linear LTC1658 (14 bit) and LTC8043 (12 bit multiplying)
MCU: Microchip (Atmel) ATMega 329PA

Among the analog jellybean stuff, there are two low offset OPAMPS: TI OPA2277 and AD OP07.

An then of course there's the abundance of Toshiba TLP227A photo relays for range switching.

There has to be some more stuff on the other side of the PCB (at least a step-up converter to generate the 24V from the single LiPo cell) but I didn't bother to remove it from the casing since most of the relevant semiconductors appear to be visible directly (was basically interested to find out what reference and ADC they used).

Altogether, especially considering the price, the LB02 is a decent choice. Here are some measurements of the calibrator functions (measured with Rigol DM3068):

Voltage out:
Set [V]- Measured AVRG [V]- Standard Deviation [µV]
1 - 0.99977 - 90
2 - 2.00208 - 125
3 - 3.00186 - 130
4 - 4.00347 - 106
5 - 5.00245 - 130
6 - 6.00304 - 110
7 - 7.00358 - 125
8 - 8.00302 - 98
9 - 9.00453 - 127
10 - 10.00531 - 130
11 - 11.00459 - 115

1m - 0.984m - 1.4
10m - 9.982m - 0.99
50m - 49.996m
100m - 100.021m - 1.22

Current out:
Open Loop voltage: 22.87V

Set [mA]- Measured AVRG [mA]- Standard Deviation [nA]
4 - 4.00058 - 220
8 - 7.99945 - 220
12 - 11.99721 - 250
16 - 15.99461 - 200
20 - 19.99645 - 270
24 - 23.99458 - 250

Resistance out:
(Connection cables zeroed out)

Set [Ohm] - Measured [Ohm]
20 - 20.066
50 - 49.985
100 - 99.963
200 - 199.922
400 - 399.945

Resistance test open loop voltage: 2.50098V

Hello,

I saw in BRIGHTWIN page the LB03. Half price, half digits. Is it worthy for hobbyists? What is the reference chip used inside?
I am in doubt between that one or a cheaper LB01 or a precalibrated LM399 board or even go for the LB02.
For now I just need it for calibrating my multimeters and check some circuit references as for passive I have a DE5000 which I trust. :)

Cheers,
Jorge
