How to buy a scope locally?
« on: July 29, 2016, 05:43:00 am »
I found a portable Tek scope on local CraigsList. What should I take with me to test it?

I guess I'll want a freq. generator up to the advertised bandwidth of the scope. And to test the input attenuation, a DC power supply?

What would you take? I'm pretty sure there's no warranty with such a purchase...

Thanks.

Frequency generator definitely. I don't know how easy they are to find but I found a NOS one at my shop, a Tektronix Scope Evaluation Board, it's powered by a 9v battery and generates different tough-to-read signals. Upon research, they were made in the 80s(me too!). I imagine they'd be really cheap if you can find one.

Which model is it? The TDS7xx series can be reasonably well tested using the probe compensation output.
