Philips PM3585 PF8629 Custom Disassembler
« on: July 04, 2016, 06:39:21 am »
Has anyone heard about the custom disassembler for the PM3585 Logic Analyzer made by Philips?

I have just bought one of those and while searching for the Disassembler-software, I stumbled upon that one.

Because on one of the Disk-Images I just got from a fellow Forum-Member, which contained 2 files called I2C.DSC and I2C_TEST.DSC tjhat look like source-code for a i2c-Disassembler, I'm guessing that it is some kind of DOS-Software that compiles a text-file into the .DIS-File that is used by the Logic Analyzer to configure itself accordingly.
Unfortunately, it seems like Fluke has dropped all support for these instruments the moment the aquisition of Philips' T&M-Department was done.

On an interesting side-note: some versions of the Utility-Software, which can be used to set the time and date, are Year 2000 capable, others aren't.

Saab, sorry for being slow to respond - I am swamped with work.

@SaabFAN: I know it's years ago, but did you succeed in getting something useful?

No luck so far. I've searched some of the dutch forums where former employees of Philips hang out, but every lead I've followed so far turned out to be a dead end.
There definitely was a software to create a disassembler, but it was either not very widespread, or distributed in a form that is not easy to copy.

Sad story. The PM 3585 is still a useful instrument. With 200 MHz it's certainly able to keep up with an SDRAM and because the device was apparently sold in pretty large numbers to the military and other government-institutions, it's very affordable compared to the HP Logic Analyzers. With this custom disassembler, the device would be even more useful.

There was also a Software that allowed it to decode i2c-Busses. But for that purpose the DS1054Z or any other modern scope is a much better choice because of it's larger sample-memory.

@SaabFAN: Would you mind sending me the disk containing these DSC files? And maybe a list of other disks/documents you have for the PM358x?

I know this is a very old thread and all. I'm new here and working on a project and find myself needing those two I2C files you mentioned. Do you have them?

Those are disassemblers, well one is and the other is a sample. They are loaded onto the Philips PM3585 and then you can disassemble the information on an I2C bus to assembly language. I have some of the 32bit motorola disassemblers but for the one time in my life I need an I2C disassembler. Can you help?

Nevermind. I found the compiler and I2C source code. If you or anyone might be in need of the compiler or the DSC files or just the DIS files hit me up
