Pro'skit 3 1/2 Digital LCR Multimeter
« on: March 19, 2018, 02:36:46 pm »
Hi all,
I recently bought this LCR Multimeter
here is the picture of the box

so far, the hFE seems ok (Near Transistor tester) , C is with bar with Uni-t UT-139C
inductor seems ok with LCR-T4 meter (the 20$ one)
voltage are spot on including the current
what I like about this RLC meter, it has Peak hold which it will hold the maxed measured value without have to press the hold function like uni-t (like touch hold in fluke)

Pros:
cheat functional RLC meter
2000 counts
2000MOhm
20A range
cons
measures up to 200uF capacitance
buzzer is not as good as uni-t

They are great meters. The same design is available from Minipa, Victor and perhaps others. You can search google for a schematic. I have probably 200 of the Minipa/Pro'skit units in industrial service and have yet to have a bad one. We primarily use the low DCV ranges and the capacitance and especially the 2000M (2 Gigaohm) range. Be aware that the instrument will indicate 10 Megohms when the leads are shorted on the 2000 Megohm range (this is normal) so for accurate readings subtract 10 from the reading.

They are amazingly accurate and the only series of instruments that have the 2Gigaohm range that I know of.

They are also very inexpensive for what they do.

I have not done any tests or teardowns to verify the CAT ratings. Perhaps someone should do this.

I'm not very shure about what is the point in a 2000Mohm range in a multimeter that probably has a test voltage of 0,3V, perhaps 1,5V max. To measure such high resistance you would usually use a megaohmeter, that in its more frequent form has a selectable test voltage of 250, 500 or 1000V.

But the LCR function seems promising, I'm wondering if it can test a multiple KW electric motor for inductance with some hope of accuracy, which would be excellent.

This looks like a reasonable value but......

One out of two reviews on Amazon says his/hers won't read capacitance. The specs also say CAT IV, 600V!  :scared: :bullshit: :scared: If anyone actually hooks this up to a real CAT IV situation, I hope they only lose their hands.

IMHO, I would stay away from it. It looks like it is just low priced junk as most of the Pro's Kit stuff is. Usually if a product says Pro or Professional it is usually the opposite.

Look for nS range, it is 1/Gohm and some meters have it and usual goes way up the the Gohm range.

For the naysayers (usually those that have never had one in their hands) I have personally used this meter and measured 1.9GOhm with it, I can tell you that it works. But I was not using in in a situation that calls for a HV megger. What do you want for low cost? And it does have capacitance. As I said earlier I have probably 200 in service and if they did not work believe me I would have heard about it.

I am glad you have had no problems with 200 of them. That does not negate the reputation of Pro's Kit nor the fact that they rate this CAT IV. These are facts, not naysayer BS. Really? You have 200 of these in service? May I ask what business you run that you would buy 200 of these?

We use them in the paper industry for a special proprietary test system. No need for CAT ratings as we only use the Low Voltage, Capacitance and resistance ranges. The high resistance ranges use a measurement method not unlike the Flukes that had conductance ranges. Although they were low voltage they were still useful. The difference here is at least the readout is in ohms.
