Whatisit? TDS794D on eBay
« on: April 14, 2016, 08:34:54 pm »
This one is kind of interesting. I'm guessing it was one of the engineering prototypes of the TDS794D.
Take a look at picture #8 with the weird serial # and the instrument name of "KILLER"  :D
Have to wonder if this one would even meet specification for a 794D...

And only 38 miles from it's original birthplace in Beaverton! That's about 2 miles per year travel rate. Carried by a fleet of slow-moving snails? ;D

The more I look at this, the more I see that's weird. This scope (allegedly) has Instavue, where as the D series had DPO (yeah I know it's the same thing, basically) Didn't have time to re-do the front panel, I guess.

I think they did... look closely and I think it says "InstaVue II" on the label, but DPO in the firmware. Guess they changed their minds about what to call it at some point during the development process.

This scope would make a very interesting teardown! One of the things which is completely unclear to me is the timeline of the TDS500 and TDS700 series. I have had a few in my hands and I have a feeling they have been making the A,B,C and D series at almost the same time.
There are small lies, big lies and then there is what is on the screen of your oscilloscope.
